Locations for my video

Studio
A good product is defined by the quality not the quantity. By that the length of the video isn't as important as the quality. The length of my video is 3minutes and 40seconds. The locations of my video have been carefully chosen to fit the song lyrics and the pace of the song, for example for the slower paced areas of the song i have the studio at Wyke which I am planning on booking out for recording in. the reason I am doing it in the studio for the slower paced areas of the song is because it is a darker environment and there are less distractions for the viewer. this is good for the slower paced songs as you are more likely to concentrate on the lyrics of the song rather than the video itself.

The studio will be set up for a one person sitting. My performer will be sat on a chair with a guitar and mic singing the song. The main focus of the camera will always be one the artist.
The camera shots that I will be using will never reach out further than a medium long shot. this is because it's a small room and there is no reason to extend further out because there is no narrative story being played.

Welton Waters
Welton Waters is a small lake in my town area, it's used for water skiing and other various water sports. It has a high verge on one side of the lake and on the other is the river humber. The video will be recorded with the lake in the background as it is more scenic than the humber. The ground is dusty, this is good for the areas of the song were there are sudden fast paced areas as the dust can be kicked up to create suspension to a new line. The shots available in this area are anything from a long shot down, an extreme long shot is too far away and there is too much open space to try and fill.

Long flat back road
On the outskirts of my village there is a very long flat road which is hardly used. This is a very good location and it takes about 5minutes to walk from one end to another. This would be a good location for filming in as it isn't used often because there is a more direct route not far away. The reason why it's good that it isn't used much is so that my artist can walk down the road in the centre and not get disturbed. When shooting this video I will have the camera on one angle perminantly. The angle will be a long shot of him walking and singing the song.

Old windmill at Hessle foreshore
The old windmill at Hessle foreshore is a good location for my video. The video would be a medium long shot looking up at Eddie with the windmill in the background. This will be good as with Eddie looking down at the camera he would look intimidating and also looks as if there is a more personal effect to the song.

Oranisation of my cast

Lyrics to my chosen song

Ed Sheeran - Don't

[Verse 1:]I met this girl late last year
She said don't you worry if I disappear
I told her I'm not really looking for another mistake
I called an old friend thinking that the trouble would wait
But then I jump right in
A week later returned
I reckon she was only looking for a lover to burn
But I gave her my time for two or three nights
Then I put it on pause 'til the moment was right
I went away for months until our paths crossed again
She told me I was never looking for a friend
Maybe you could swing by my room around 10
Baby bring a lemon and a bottle of gin
We'll be in between the sheets 'til the late AM
Baby if you wanted me then you should've just said
She's singing
Ah lahmlahlah

[Chorus:]
Don't fuck with my love
That heart is so cold
All over my home
I don't wanna know that babe
Ah lahmlahlah
Don't fuck with my love
I told her she knows
Take aim and reload
I don't wanna know that babe
Ah lahmlahlah

[Verse 2:]
For a couple weeks I
Only want to see her
We drink away the days with a take-away pizza
Before a text message was the only way to reach her
Now she's staying at my place and loves the way I treat her
Singing out Aretha
All over the track like a feature
And never wants to sleep, I guess that I don't want to either
But me and her we make money the same way
Four cities, two planes the same day
Those shows have never been what it's about
But maybe we'll go together and just figure it out
I'd rather put on a film with you and sit on the couch
But we should get on a plane
Or we'll be missing it now
Wish I'd have written it down
The way that things played out
When she was kissing him
How? I was confused about
She should figure it out while I'm sat here singing
Ah lahmlahlah

[Chorus:]
Don't fuck with my love
That heart is so cold
All over my home
I don't wanna know that babe
Ah lahmlahlah
Don't fuck with my love
I told her she knows
Take aim and reload
I don't wanna know that babe
Ah lahmlahlah

[Verse 3:]
[Knock knock knock] on my hotel door
I don't even know if she knows what for
She was crying on my shoulder
I already told ya
Trust and respect is what we do this for
I never intended to be next
But you didn't need to take him to bed that's all
And I never saw him as a threat
Until you disappeared with him to have sex of course
It's not like we were both on tour
We were staying on the same fucking hotel floor
And I wasn't looking for a promise or commitment
But it was never just fun and I thought you were different
This is not the way you realize what you wanted
It's a bit too much, too late if I'm honest
All this time God knows I'm singing
Ah lahmlahlah

[Chorus 2x:]
Don't fuck with my love
That heart is so cold
All over my home
I don't wanna know that babe
Ah lahmlahlah
Don't fuck with my love
I told her she knows
Take aim and reload
I don't wanna know that babe
Ah lahmlahlah

Good and bad music videos

Today we looked at a range of different music videos of previous students and analysed them with their grades.

The first three that we looked at were graded EED, these gave us an indication on what we should and shouldn't do with our video. The reasons why they got bad grades were as followed;

Video 1 - http://robmaciver2.blogspot.co.uk/
  • It was very dark and you couldn't see anything of the actual video itself
  • Only a small proportion of the video was music related
  • There was no narrative
  • Were they could have picked up another mark there was no sound, there was a soundless band playing
  • The pace of the video and changing of shots didn't match the pace of the music
  • Camera was very unsteady at times

Video 2 - http://fh9836a2.blogspot.co.uk/
  • The lip sync was very poor
  • Poor editing
  • It looked as if it was filmed last minute
  • Poor location choice
  • No appropriate clothing
  • No mise-en-scene
Video 3 - http://jasminegilla2media.blogspot.co.uk/
  • Un-needed flashing
  • One location
  • No costume change
  • There was a narrative
  • It became repetitive
  • No development within the video
  • Shots were too long

The next set of three videos that we looked at were A* A+ A-. These videos gave us a very good idea of how to achieve the highest of grades

Video 1- http://rachelbowermedia.blogspot.co.uk/
  • The flashing of the lights were in tune with the song music
  • Appropriate locations
  • Appropriate costumes
  • Editing was top notch
         Video 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv7mYZKK_Ns
  • Narrative was good
  • Underwater camera skills
  • Editing was good
  • Numerous locations used
  • Mirroring skills in editing
  • Chose a good performer
Video 3 - http://nahidaalia2.blogspot.co.uk/
  • A skilled performer was used
  • Good quality camera
  • Locations
  • Costumes which fitted the lyrics to the song
  • Pre-booked locations
  • It was slightly repetitive though

Video Analysis

What I liked and will be wanting to include in my video
  1. Narrative within the video
I liked the narrative within the video as it gives more purpose to the lyrics to the song.
High chance of me using this technique

  1. Quick shots at the points in the video were the pace is fast
I think that using fast and various shots and angles where the pace in the track is fast is a good idea  as it keeps the viewers eyes on the screen and they don't get bored
I will be using this technique

  1. Varity of shots an in different locations
The idea of having a various selection of different shots and angles is great as you then have a choice of clips to use and you aren't stuck with one. Also the different locations mixes up the video and then the viewer doesn't get bored of the same view and also makes the video look more professional
I have already included this for my video

  1. Lip Sinc
I will not be using the miming technique in my video. the reason for this is that the person I have to sing the video (Ellis Best) is an actual singer who performs in front of audiences and is very good at it. Also the reason why I won't be using the miming is that it is very hard sometime to keep the track in time with the mime. Plus it looks more professional and more effort is included with not miming.

Video Research

For this task I watch numerous current music videos and said what I liked and didn't like

I will upload PowerPoint slides soon

Song Choice

After an array of different choices for my video I have chosen Ed Sheeran - Don't

My singer for the video is Eddie Moxon, he is a student who does singing events

what makes a good product?

To make a quality music video, it is key to have a variety of scenes and costumes as this keeps the audience interested as to what is going to happen next. Including a variety of different people, not just one main protagonist also maintains the audiences attention. Imagination and narrative also have a key influence on creating a quality music video as they are both exciting features for the audience to watch as they will easily stay in focus with the music video. Semiotics are a big influence on music videos also as they have hidden, subconscious meanings behind them which connects with the audience discreetly.

Brief for A2 coursework

For my A2 coursework I will be producing an original video to an already made song. The only thing that will be kept the same is the song music, lyrics and name of the song. Along with the video I will also be making a CD cover for the artist and song and a website page
